With roughly 15% of the military transitioning each year
and 33% of the military relocating each year, USO-Metro
recognizes the need to effectively increase the post-military
career employment prospects for service members and
support military spouses, who are constantly in transition due
to their service member’s frequent change of duty stations.
USO-Metro Transition focuses these efforts in
the following concentrations:
- Employment Readiness
- Employment Services
- Family Transition
- Project Next S.T.E.P.
- Stronger Spouses
- Transition Skills Training
Based out of the USO Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir, USO-Metro Transition offers a variety of workshops, seminars, transition education programs, coffee connections, military spouse networking events, and more.
Additionally, the USO Pathfinder® Transition Program extends the USO experience to active duty, Reserve, National Guard and military spouses beyond Fort Belvoir by offering professional development services throughout the duration of the service member or military spouse’s career, as well as when they transition out of the military and settle into their new communities.
Our team also works with a number of corporate partners to be able to offer career education programs, including:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is designed for entry-level network engineers. CCNA teaches skills such as installing, configuring, operating and trouble-shooting routed and switched networks. Instruction for this program is provided by Veterans Institute of Training and Technology, Inc.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) is designed for those with prior management experience. This will prepare attendees for the PMP certification exam; validating competence in the ability to lead and manage projects and teams. Instruction for this program is also provided by Veterans Institute of Training and Technology.
- Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) is designed for those interested in a career in cyber security. CISSP is a comprehensive course teaching information systems security.
