Giant Food Gives Back to Military Community at Giant National Capital BBQ Battle
Hundreds of thousands descended on Pennsylvania Ave. on June 22 and 23 for a massive barbecue festival featuring military chefs, celebrities and veterans of our armed services.
The festivities didn’t just pack a crowd, but raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for services benefiting the military and their families in the Metropolitan Washington and Baltimore area.
Giant Food President Gordon Reid presented the USO of Metropolitan Washington - Baltimore with a generous check of $520,000 raised in Giant stores during the month of June.
“We are honored to be one of the charity recipients!” said President and CEO of USO-Metro Elaine Rogers. “And a huge thank you to the volunteers out here today as well.”
More than 500 USO-Metro and Giant National Capital BBQ Battle volunteers teamed up to make the weekend a success.
“Without volunteers, the USO would not survive. Whether it is at the airports, at the military hospitals where we work with wounded, ill and injured, or whether it’s working military who are transitioning — we do so many different services.”
For more information on how to get involved or to volunteer at one of USO-Metro’s nine local lounges and centers, visit https://usometro.org/support.
