Project USO Elf

Project USO Elf allows American citizens (companies, organizations, and individuals/families) to provide support to military children in need during the holidays by selecting and providing gifts from their personal wish list.

Project USO Elf 2016 took place on December 13th at Fort Belvoir and Fort Meade, where we were able to serve more than 1,300 military children. Check out photos from the event here.

In 2008, USO-Metro began receiving calls from service members for assistance with providing holiday gifts for their children due to financial constraints. Also during this time, USO-Metro received an increase in calls from the public wanting to support our military and their families during the holiday season. USO-Metro decided to combine the two and create a program that assists junior enlisted service members, E-1 to E-6, by pairing wish lists they submit for their children with individual donors and companies in the community who would like to help a service member for the holiday season. The program quickly caught on with both the military community and the civilian community interested in supporting our troops. In 2010, we went from serving 500 children to 1200 children. Since the program’s inception, it continues to grow every year in popularity, with both service members and the civilian community interested in supporting our troops. Due to the generosity of those in the community, we were able to assist more than 1200 children last year.
